Enable Yahoo Messenger Video Call in U.A.E.

Follow these steps to re-enable video calling on your Yahoo Messenger.

Since yahoo messenger underwent maintenance on June 2010, many YM users in Dubai found that their video call options were not working. The icon was greyed out and people began looking for alternatives like Skype. Since many of my contacts are fond of using Yahoo Messenger, it’s hard to migrate to another messenger service. So if you still want to use Yahoo Messenger for your video call, you can do so by following the steps below:

Set up your proxy settings 

1. Open up the options page of your web browser and look for the network connection settings

2. Add proxy1.emirates.net.ae as your proxy server and port 8080 (this is etisalat’s proxy)

3. Save the settings and make sure you are able to browse websites

Set up Yahoo Messenger to connect using the proxy

1. Open up connection preferences and select connect using a proxy (no need to add any other info as it will use the settings from you web browser)

Please note that this method has been tested to work using Etisalat as the service provider, IE9 as the primary browser, and YM10 as the messenger application.
